I think this is the interview he was talking about. Though this quote wouldn't apply to opponents Goku or at least anyone stronger hadn't face. Since the kids were the main cast its natural that Bio Broly was weaker.

 So that quote technically wouldn't apply since Goku wasn't even in the movie until the end of it. He didnt do any of the fighting.

Hell, it wouldn't apply to Movie 9 either.
